Malmaison York

Set within the heart of York’s historic city centre, the Malmaison York is a striking blend of heritage architecture and modern luxury. This high-end hotel development has transformed a former office building into a vibrant hospitality destination, offering boutique accommodation, stylish dining, and panoramic rooftop views.

The £12 million redevelopment was delivered under the expert leadership of ILEX Project Management, with construction commencing in early 2020 and reaching completion in mid-2022. The works involved the full structural refurbishment and internal reconfiguration of a 1960s concrete-framed building, converting it into a 150-bed luxury hotel with bar, restaurant, spa, and rooftop sky bar.

ILEX provided full project management services across the life of the scheme, from pre-construction design development through to procurement, contractor oversight, and handover. Particular challenges included managing construction logistics in a constrained city-centre site and delivering a high-spec fit-out to meet Malmaison’s brand standards while preserving key architectural elements.

Now open, Malmaison York stands as a flagship addition to the city’s hospitality scene – combining urban elegance with the unique charm of one of the UK’s most historic destinations.
